"The Illustrated Mum"-Book Review

The book, "The Illustrated Mum" is probably one of my favorite books. It has such a unique plot; unlike any of the other books I've read. The book is about a mother named Marigold who is covered from head to toe in tattoos, (thus the name Illustrated Mum) who lives with two daughters, Star and Dolphin. Marigold isn't quite like other moms because she has mood swings, stays out late, and unusual tempers. Star, the older sister has to take care of her mom, which she shouldn't be doing. They both love Marigold; but Star is sick of caring for her and Dolphin, Star's younger sister. When Star's dad appears out of nowhere, Star immediately accepts the offer to stay with him. Dolphin, on the other hand is afraid of leaving her mother alone and knew that she had to stick together with her mom no matter what. Then many things happen which lead to most PERFECT ending. (No spoilers)
I read this book around 3-4 times. It is just amazing! It sort of reminds the reader about their relationship with THEIR mother. Left me pondering on how if my mother was like Marigold, how things would be like. I knew I would stay with her, but you never actually know unless your in the same situation as Dolphin and Star.
Honestly, I don't blame Star. She has to look over her own mother when her mother is supposed to be looking after her. That's stressful, and no child should go through that. But later in the story, (spoiler) when Star told Dolphin to put her in a mental hospital, and that Marigold was crazy? That was just cruel. Star yelling at Dolphin over the phone left me heartbroken. That's why the ending was just so perfect. I give this book 5 stars!
